Every now and then you fancy something that is very naughty, but very nice. It would have to be a one off treat as it is very indulgent but makes for a really tasty start to the day. It begins with popping some Pain au Chocolate into the oven. These have to be freshly baked ones. Try to seek out your nearest artisan or craft bakers, one that really goes back to the roots of bread making. The ones featured here are from the new bakers in Edenbridge High Street, Flourish. They are huge, a real meal in themselves but are melt in the mouth delicious with a hit of rich plain chocolate in the middle.A link to the shop can be found here. It is really worth a visit but be quick as it does tend to sell out. I can also highly recommend their Sour Dough Loaves.
To wash all this down is real Hot Chocolate. It has got to be made from 100% cacao for the same hit as your usual morning coffee. The best I have found is Willie's Artisan Chocolate and Cacao products.
This is quite expensive but really is something special. It comes as two gold wrapped bars, one will do for this recipe. There are different types you can get each with a slightly different flavour they are widely available in most Waitrose Supermarkets.
All you need is:
25g Willie's cacao grated
100ml Water
Sugar to taste
Heat the water and cacao in a pan stirring frequently. Bring to the boil to thicken. When thick and well mixed add the sugar. Decant and enjoy!
You can also add honey instead of the sugar or chilli or rum for an evening treat. Be warned, this has a high caffeine level so not your bedtime cocoa! Might not want to give to the kids either for this reason.
